Kautex Textron is thrilled to announce a further commitment in driving down greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and building a resilient, zero-emissions economy. The current climate emergency requires urgent climate action and Kautex is taking the necessary steps by aligning with Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to further execute sustainable business models. In 2022, Kautex committed to SBTi with a goal of reducing 80% of carbon emissions in Scope 1 & 2 and 30% in Scope 3 by 2030, with the commitment to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050.
We are proud to share that SBTi has validated and officially approved our near-term and long-term net-zero science-based greenhouse gas emission reduction targets.1,2
CEO Joerg Rautenstrauch stated: “We know that sustainability is no longer an option; it’s an integral part of our daily business practice. Receiving this validation from SBTi further enforces our dedication to sustainable processes and products.”
The near-term science-based target approval classifies our goals as in line with the Business Ambition for 1.5°C and UNFCCC Race to Zero campaign. This participation underscores our alignment with global efforts to limit temperature rise and transition towards a low-carbon economy. In addition, the net-zero science-based target approval validates our alignment with the Science Based Targets initiative Net-Zero Standard.
The Science Based Targets initiative is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The SBTi defines and promotes best practice in science-based target setting and independently assesses companies’ targets.
SBTi provides companies with a clear framework for setting greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets grounded in climate science and provides ambitious climate actions. Sophie Louis, Director of Energy & Sustainability stated: “This achievement reflects our dedication to taking meaningful action against climate change and aligns with the latest climate science.”
Our sustainable initiatives have made this year an unforgettable one for Kautex. Earlier this year, we joined the United Nations Global Compact and were recently awarded Platinum from EcoVadis, the world’s biggest provider of sustainability ratings.
Hoang Thi Do, Manager Sustainability for Kautex shared, “To be validated by SBTi shows us that we are moving in the right sustainable direction. Now we will put even more efforts into turning the commitment into actions.”
This current announcement does not imply that we have reached net-zero emissions yet. We are working diligently towards achieving our goals. To learn more about our sustainability journey, visit our website.
