Formula Student Germany 2017

August 14, 2017

In this year, the Formula Student Germany was held from Aug. 8th to 13th at the Hockenheimring motor racing circuit. The Formula Student Germany (FSG) is an international design competition and is initiated by the Association of German Engineers (Verein Deutscher Ingenieure) since 2006.

In this competition, students should build a single seat formula race car with which they can compete against teams from all over the world. The competition is not won solely by the team with the fastest car, but rather by the team with the best overall package of construction, performance, and financial and sales planning.

There were 115 teams including approximately 4000 students from 24 countries taking part in this contest. The participants are from various countries in Europe, the United States, China, and India. This competition is divided into three classes, including internal combustion engine vehicles, electric vehicles and driverless vehicles. There are eight disciplines for the competition, which should be fulfilled within a week. Among them, there are three statistic disciplines: business plan presentation, cost event as well as an engineering design event. The other five are dynamic disciplines, which aim to test the students’ practical applicability.

Kautex is sponsoring the event for several years now. In order to support future talents and their passion for engineering and the automotive industry, we additionally provide the teams with a refueling station and take part in judging the student's business plans.
